Cancer Care & Research

Goal: $100 million

The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center

The OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of only 39 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States, and the OSU Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute is one of only a few hospitals in the Midwest dedicated solely to cancer care. A national and international leader in research that translates to high-quality patient care and education programs, the OSU Cancer Program has been addressing all aspects of cancer care—prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation—since 1976. Six closely collaborating research programs have experienced tremendous success and continue to show promise for the future: cancer control, experimental therapeutics, immunology, molecular biology and cancer genetics, molecular carcinogenesis and chemoprevention and viral oncogenesis.

Cancer Program Expansion

The OSU Cancer Program is currently embarking on an unprecedented expansion. Through this new initiative, the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center will further advance the program’s pre-eminent standards for patient care, research and education and create the 3rd largest “cancer-fighting” institution in the United States.

This expansion program will also enable the OSU Cancer Program to improve how cancer care and research is conducted by creating new multi-disciplinary teams working in geographic proximities. This new working environment will provide common spaces for physicians, patients, researchers, and caregivers, speeding up the transfer of discoveries to benefit the patient.

The expansion of the OSU Cancer Program is an integral component of the future overall growth of the Ohio State University Medical Center and provides a special opportunity for leveraging resources that will enhance both activities.
